Martin was the founder of the Interactive Marketing Group at Oglivy & Mather in 1983, more than 10 years before the first ads hit the web. In 1995 Martin was recruited to be the President of the New York Times Electronic Media Company where he led the team that created NYTIMES.com and successfully transitioned The Times into a powerhouse digital media player. He spent 17 years at The Times and served on the Times Executive Committee. In 2001, he founded the Online Publishers Association, today known as DCN, the trade association for high-quality digital content providers. More recently Martin was a Fellow at The Harvard Kennedy School of Government where he co-created “Riptide” an Oral History of the collision of Journalism and Digital Technology.
